Scotland Rugby Shirt 1984 Grand Slam. Our inspiration. The Ellis Rugby Rugby Shirt is inspired by the famous alternative Scotland 1984 Grand Slam team captained by Jim Aitken.
Scotland defeat Wales
The team was led by redoubtable loosehead prop Jim Aitken. In addition, the hard-working forwards David Leslie and Jim Calder. Who provided a platform for wily half-back pairing. John Rutherford and Roy Laidlaw to work their magic.
Scotland won the Grand Slam for the first time since 1938. They defeated Wales by 15 points to 9 in Cardiff. Their tries came from Iain Paxton and inspirational Captain Jim Aitken. The trusty boot of Peter Dods added both conversions and a penalty goal.
Next up was England at Twickenham. Tries through David Johnston and Euan Kennedy. Also, two conversions and two penalties from Peter Dods. Secured 18 points to 6 victory. After the Triple Crown had been Secured. Following some exciting rugby resulted in a 32-9 victory over Ireland in Dublin.
The Decider inspired the Scotland Rugby Shirt 1984 Grand Slam
Captain Jim Aitken led out his charges in the famous white jersey to an expectant Murrayfield. But, it was France who led at half-time. Scrum-half Jerome Gallion scored their converted try. This was in response to an early penalty by Scotland’s full-back Peter Dods.
Dods landed a further three penalties in the second half to tie the scores at 12-12. Then French stand-off Jean-Patrick Lescarboura had knocked over a penalty and drop-goal.
Scotland’s forwards then took charge in that second period. With tight-head prop, Iain Milne led the assault. Also, openside David Leslie was in exceptional form.
With seconds to go. Blindside flanker Jim Calder seized on possession at a lineout close to the French line. And scored the decisive try. Peter Dods added both the conversion and a penalty and the celebrations began.
Manufacturing
The Scotland Rugby Shirt 1984 Grand Slam. Manufactured from satin touch 100% cotton, the jersey features a detailed embroider Crest. Please note we use Ecru colour, rather than pure white to create a vintaged aged look to the garment. Other features include a herringbone finish on the vents and tape on the neck opening.
