An Introduction to the England Rugby 1991 Shirt 1992 Grand Slam
England Rugby 1991 Shirt 1992 Grand Slam is inspired by the great teams of 1991 and 1992 led by Will Carling.
England Rugby Grand Slam 1991
The England team of 1991 was one of the finest teams to wear the famous Red Rose. Firstly, they began their Five Nations campaign against Wales. It was played at the Cardiff Arms Park on the 19th of January. Although there was only one try. Scored by Back Row Forward Mike Teague. They dominated possession and Simon Hodgkinson kicked seven goals. England won comfortably 25 points to 6.
Secondly, England entertained Scotland at Twickenham in their second outing. Winger Nigel Heslop crossed for a try. And once again the deadly boot of Simon Hodgkinson contributed one conversion and five penalty goals. For Scotland Fly-Half Craig Chalmers slotted four penalty goals.
5 Nations victory in Dublin for England Rugby
Thirdly, two weeks later England headed to Dublin. And once again Mike Teague scored a try. As did Rory Underwood. The prolific Hodgkinson added one conversion and two penalties in the 16-7 victory. Ireland replied with a try by Simon Geoghegan. Also, a penalty by the dual country international Brian Smith (Australia and Ireland).
While England looked strong in their performances. France had equally enjoyed victories over Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. The two strongest teams met in a Grand Slam decider at Twickenham stadium on the 16th of March. It was a game that matched the expectations. Philippe Saint-Andre scored one of the game’s greatest tries. But Rory Underwood’s try and Hodgkinson’s penalties saw them home 21-19.
England Rugby Grand Slam 1992
The English team continued their good form from 1991. In the first fixture against Scotland in Murrayfield. They dominated their hosts. The final score finished 25-7 in England’s favour. Confidence was high in the English squad for the arrival of Ireland at Twickenham. Their attacking game was to the fore. The game finished comfortably for England who won by 38 points to 9.
England Rugby v France Rugby in Paris
Finally, ‘Le Crunch’ this time in Paris saw England defeat France by 31 points to 13. Try scorers included Dewi Morris. Also, Rory Underwood and Jonathan Webb. In addition, England was awarded a penalty try. These combined with Webb’s outstanding kicking performance. Which included 3 conversions and 3 penalties resulted in 31 points to 13 victory. For France Alain Penaud and Sébastien Viars crossed for tries. Also, Viars kicked a conversion and a penalty goal.
Now there was only Wales in the way of a remarkable winning run for England. And the opportunity to create history with back-to-back Grand Slams. A highly motivated English team totally dominated the Welsh team in the Forwards. Wade Dooley, Micky Skinner and skipper Will Carling crossed for tries. Jonathan Webb once again contributed significantly. With three conversions and two penalties in the 24 points to nil victory.
Outstanding England Rugby Team
The England Grand Slam teams of 1991 and 1992 included some wonderful players. Simon Hodgkinson was the goal-kicking hero of 1991. He was replaced with an equally good marksman in 1992. In the shape of Jonathan Webb. On the flanks, Rory Underwood led the way. Skipper Will Carling created an exceptional Centre partnership with the slick running Jeremy Guscott.
